Unapologetic Black Woman – Takirra Winfield Dixon

Speaker 1 (00:42:25):

We tell you, I tell people this all the time. I’m always like, you know, if that didn’t convince you that there’s a problem, then you are not looking. You are not seeing. I said, because you know what? First of all, had they even caught wind that there was going to be a gathering. They would have been ready because you saw how they were ready for some of those black lives matter protests. Right. They caught wind. I was like, everybody, everybody, people who weren’t going, people who, everybody knew something was happening. And they’re talking about, we just weren’t. Right. No, you didn’t. You didn’t what happened was you see black people as threats. You see them as weapons. We know our skin is weaponized. You see us as threats. You see white people as benevolent. So when you heard that a bunch of white people were going to be doing something on the sixth at the Capitol, you thought, Oh, they’re going to be fine. They’re reasonable. They’re not going to do anything. We would have not even gotten on those stairs. Soon as you step foot on those stairs, there would have been bullets, water, dogs. I mean, you name it. It would have been on us. There would have been no way we would’ve broken in and done what those people did.

Speaker 3 (00:43:43):

They would have called it. They would have found a way to call the national guard. Then

Speaker 1 (00:43:46):

The national guard would have been called before we even got there.

Speaker 3 (00:43:51):

I mean, look, I mean, to your point about like whiteness equally and goodness and benevolence and all of those pieces, right? Like the outrage around, Oh man. Some of them were cops. Right. It’s like, wow. Like they let some people in the cops were like part of this too. It’s like, well, um, yeah, like black people have been trying to tell you about it.

Speaker 1 (00:44:17):

Say all the time where we can be shouting from the mountain tops. It could be echoing all over the place. And nobody pays attention.

Speaker 3 (00:44:25):

Nobody, nobody till something

Speaker 1 (00:44:28):

Like this happens. And you’re like, Oh my God. Why are you? So it’s been bouncing off the mountain

Speaker 3 (00:44:34):

For decades. I mean, it’s, we’ve been, we’ve been trying to tell them Ben trying to, you know, and it’s just like, you know, after the Capitol riots, right. I’m like, all right. So like the bar is real low and Oh my God, it’s real low. Right by I’m like cautiously kind of like, you know, when folks are talking about, um, you know, doing things, trying to make some progress and all of that and progress is incremental and all of those things. And I’m like, yes, but sometimes it doesn’t have to be no

Speaker 1 (00:45:08):

Times it’s been incremental for a while and it needs to take a catapult jump. It needs to be

Speaker 3 (00:45:13):

Intention. Sometimes it’s been intentionally increments.

Speaker 1 (00:45:19):

That’s like, when you’re, when you’re trying to get a, uh, a promotion, they’re like, don’t worry about it. Your time will come while you fall watching people try to pour over you. They come in after you and you like, really? Like, why am I waiting when they just, they just got here yesterday and they’re already, you know, they think some of it isn’t. Yeah,
